It has always been a joy working with the experts from Getty and every request, however far-fetched, is followed be copious amounts of research and a presentation of astounding and original images. I have used them in my work for several years now and the quality with which they produce their products is continuously excellent. Highly recommended.
The Connaught Restoration - Art Photography
This major project required a range of individual images to be hung throughout the rooms, suites and public areas of the hotel. Each one had to be different and have some connection with The Connaught.
I worked closely with Getty over a period of a year to select the photographic prints that now form a unique and valuable collection for the hotel.
The subject matter that I chose related to a golden age of travel, fashion, society, racing and sailing.
The work included previously unpublished family portraits of HRH The Duke of Connaught and rare historic views of Afghanistan taken between 1879 and 1897 ( the year that the hotel opened ) for a specialist suite.
I wanted to celebrate the Englishness of The Connaught and the atmosphere and confidence of the period when the hotel was built. Without doubt the photography mixed with other media ( oils, drawings, engravings and watercolours ) makes the guest experience of this hotel more intimate, like staying in a luxury private house.
No brief seemed to daunt the Gallery researchers , who clearly enjoyed working with me on this commission and we were presented with some stunning and unusual material. I particularly enjoyed working closely with Getty's darkroom in order to achieve our exact requirements.
The attention to detail and quality are superb.
