Past Highlights

Redwood Library & Athenaeum, Newport, Rhode Island, 2024

Slim Aarons: Newport Days

Slim Aarons: Newport Days featured more than eighty works by Slim Aarons alongside archival material and ephemera. For this exhibition, Getty Images curator Shawn Waldron, conducted bespoke research in the Getty Images archive to uncover and present previously unseen works.

The show opened at the Redwood Library & Athenaeum in June 2024 and, originally scheduled for three months, was extended until January 2025 due to high public interest.

The Redwood successfully fundraised against the exhibition prior to opening, had a sold-out opening event, and hosted a standing room only talk, highlighting the enduring appeal of Aarons’ work.

Slim Aarons: Gold Coast

Gold Coast celebrated Slim Aarons’ Palm Beach photographs, with a bespoke exhibition sponsored by Lilly Pulitzer, the originator of American resortwear.

Curated by Getty Images’ Shawn Waldron, the show featured previously unseen works from Aarons’ archive, capturing the glamour of South Florida from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Presented at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and Museum in 2024, the exhibition also highlighted Lilly Pulitzer’s influence during this era - both through her iconic designs and her presence in Aarons’ photographs.

As part of the launch, the exhibition included a Lilly Pulitzer fashion show - a vibrant celebration of the designer’s legacy and her connection to the Palm Beach lifestyle Aarons so vividly documented.
