Steam Train

Charles Hewitt

Collection 1940s

14th February 1948: A shunter checking his train at Hither Green station, London, where high-power lamp units, inspired by the light cast by German flares during wartime, create a moonlight effect. Shunters have reported quicker and easier working conditions since the introduction of the high-elevation lighting.
