1956: A man operating smoke-belching machinery on a rocky shore in the west of Scotland. Arran, in the Firth of Clyde, is a rugged island famous for its wild scenery and the caves where, according to legend, Robert the Bruce hid from the English. The inhabitants mostly farm or make their living by fishing. Original Publication: Picture Post – 8350 – The Isle Of Arran – unpub.
