George ‘Slim’ Aarons (1916-2006) produced an unrivalled record of elegance, privilege,  and leisure across five decades. From legends of Hollywood to European aristocrats and the crème del la crème of fashionable society, Slim photographed the world’s elite in their most relaxed, radiant, and unguarded moments. The resulting archive, which was acquired by Getty Images in 1997, is a unique insider’s view of the golden age of glamour.  

Following his years as a decorated WWII combat photographer, Slim made a conscious decision to trade the torn battlefields for lush lawns and tropical gardens. His signature style—vibrant, sun-drenched, and effortlessly chic—led to choice assignments for LIFE, Town & Country, and Harper’s Bazaar, among others. These are not staged shoots but rare glimpses of private events and public displays in the world’s most glamorous destinations.
