Three works by Picture Post photographer John Chillingworth on loan from the Hulton Archive are included in the popular new Turner Gallery exhibition Seaside: Photographed. Curated by Val Williams and Karen Shepherdson, the exhibition will be shown at Turner Contemporary throughout the summer of 2019 before touring to three other UK venues in 2020. The broad survey features work from 1850 to the present by artists such as Henri Cartier Bresson, Anna Fox, Susan Hiller, Paul Nash, Martin Parr, and many others. The exhibition is Turner Contemporary’s first ever show of photography, a sign of the medium’s growing acceptance in the fine art arena.

The three Chillingworth images, seen here, were shot in 1954 and originally published in the July 31 Picture Post to illustrate the article, “It’s Always Bank Holiday in Blackpool.” All are available as limited edition c-type prints exclusively from the Getty Images Gallery.
