A History of the Isle of Man TT Races

“100 years on the roads” – A History of the Isle of Man TT Races
Curated by Murray Walker

The exhibition features 100 years of TT races including some previously unseen shots. Curated by Murray Walker OBE, the selection includes legendary TT heroes such as Stanley Woods, Geoff Duke, Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood as well as modern riders including David Jefferies, Steve Hislop and Joey Dunlop.

Notable moments in TT history including Bob McIntyre’s first 100mph lap are represented as well as the days when the TT included motorcar racing as part of the fledgling European motor racing circuit. The first motorcycle TT in 1907 and the record breaking feats of John McGuinness and Dave Molyneux from the Centenary in 2007 are also included.

Race fans can see the original Keppel Gate and the old TT Grandstand, which despite their age are still instantly recognisable landmarks.

The initiative was created by the Department of Tourism and Leisure. Adrian Earnshaw, MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure commented:

“This is the definitive exhibition of TT images and will be of major interest to bike fans across the world.”

Murray Walker MBE commented:

“In my view, the TT races are the greatest motorsport event in the world. The races have been an enormous part of my life from when my father raced in the 1930’s through to the period when I commentated for the BBC. This exhibition brings back many incredible memories.”
