Phillips Collection

Covering a period from 1908 to the early 20s this collection of nearly 10,000 glass negatives is a beautiful and evocative record of high society life in the early part of the century. From hunting and shooting to house parties in the country estates of the upper classes, together with society events such as Black Ascot in 1910, Chelsea Flower Show, Cowes Regatta, and winter sports at St Moritz. Lord Kitchener, David Lloyd George, Lady de Bathe (formerly Lillie Langtry) and Emmeline Pankhurst also feature among the ranks of society hostesses and minor royalty.
